FRIDAY!!!! CANCER SUCKS BUT IM FIGHTING LIKE A GIRL!

Family and Friends,

I have been holding on to this dream for a while now. It is a dream that is starting like a butterfly fighting to be free from it cocoon. Tonight is its first night to fly to unlimited heights. It starts with you. I need your help to nurture, support and encourage this dream so that we can make a difference in this world of unknowns. I am sharing this for the first time and hoping that you will be able to experience this new journey that I am taking. As all of you know Aug 08 I was diagnosis with stage 3 breast cancer. My life changed in the blink of an eye. So many questions and so many thoughts ran through my mind. Will I live or will I die? What would the girls do? I can't even begin to explain what I was feeling. I had to figure out so much. It did not run in my family. I did not have a friend that could guide me ( I did meet some wonderful people down the road). It was me who had to fight like a girl. I pushed through 4 months of chemo, I made it through a double mastectomy and fought my way through several months of radiation. A half of a year of my life learning as I went. It was tough but I had so much to be thankful for. I was a loyal blogger and my followers were even more loyal. They prayed and rallied around me. The gave my strength and hope to push on. Strangers were sending me all kinds of stuff to show me that I was not alone. It was amazing and it meant the world to me. When I was going to my apts I was given different things. Little or big it did not matter. It was the thought behind it. I have a list that goes on. Many meals cooked for me. It seemed like it was always the day we needed it. I had a housekeeper who found me while I was going through treatments. She came and cleaned my house every month. There again it was always the right day. I would come home and she would pull my bed down and made me feel like a queen. I was not able to process all of this at the time. No one was looking for a pat on the back. No one was doing it for any reason other then to give my hope. So now that I am little over a year out Mike and I are ready to give back and pay forward. Back in November Mike had a hope chest made for me. I have always wanted one. He knows that I am still struggling and I don't like to talk a lot about the fight I have had to take on but he knew that I am passionate about life. So he had Cindys Hope Chest engraved on the chest. It has come to life and I am ready to give it the same passion that I have to fight this terrible diease. All of these services and things that were done for me were funded by someone and I want that to be me. I would like to introduce my non-profit organization called Cindys Hope Chest. My goal is help other women battling breast cancer. There are so many needs that these women need that they may not even know yet. I want to give them support in any way that I can. Yes there are some very big organization that give grants and do help and I am so thankful for them. I just want to give them a personal touch to see that someone has been through the storm and is still hitting it hard. I want them to see that they can make it but I can not do this alone. I need you to help me get my name out there. I need you to forward this email out to as many people as you can. It is time to make a difference in someones life today. If you are interested in helping in any way please let me know. I need volunteers, business owners, contacts, donations (tangible and monetary), people to volunteer their services. This next year I am going to work very hard on many events to raise money so that I can start supporting this cause now. I would like to invite all of you to my first charity function. It is called Chairs for Charity. It will be at Porter Ridge Middle (Alexa's school) on Friday March 19. The art students are painting chairs with different themes and having a silent auction. The money raised will be donated to Cindys Hope Chest and PR Relay for Life. I hope you can come. The students are working very hard. The chairs will be on display all day at the school and then the auction will end at 7pm. I will also have my hope chest out there for donations. So come out and help me fill it up with hats, scarves, bandanas, paraban free products, gift cards for groceries, restaurants, anything breast cancer support and anything to encourage them. AWWWW Valentine's Day

A few things first. Is anyone else getting junk comments from who knows where? I never got them before??? Don't know. I am still trying to find a camera that is not gonna give me trouble so I can show you my arm. I am going to be wrapped for a while so I am working on that.

My big announcement is not quite ready to be announced. I am shooting for the end of the month. Hang in there with me for a bit it will be worth it:)


Now Valentine's morning Mike took the girls and me to breakfast. It was fun and I knew the girls were excited to see what their Daddy got them. So we started to head home but we weren't going home. I was in the wonder mode by now. Just when I started to have a million thoughts we pull in the Marriott. The girls started screaming and asking tons of questions. Mike opened our room and he had the room all decked out. Roses, cards, chocolate and huge heart pillows. After the girls opened all their stuff Mike grabbed my hand and we followed the rose petals to the room. Honestly I was thinking what is he doing the girls are here???? The next few minutes took my breath away. There was a giant balloon and roses. Mike told me this is my king bed to relax. He said that he was going to take the girls and that I was to relax and he would pick me up in the morning. No kids, no dogs no early morning alarm. Oh my goodness! Are you kidding??? It was just beautiful. He had my fridge full and sweet touches for me to just relax. It was awesome. Love you baby! To my girls thanks for letting Mommy have a night away. I love you all bunches!

Sorry it takes me a day to recover from the Dr

My apt went fine. She told me that I looked good and that she would see me in 3months. She talked to me about the "what now" My chances of it coming back is 30-50%. I think I flooded the room. While I am trying to listen and make note I could hardly see her with the tears streaming. It is so hard to hear that. I have come so far but then I think it has only been a year. I have such a long road ahead. So yesterday and the first half of today I hid in my room and slept. I woke up to a text from a friend. He said he was going through a lot and felt selfish that it was bothering him when my issues were heavier. I guess we all need to stop when we are feeling down and be thankful because some has it worse. So I picked my depressed tail up and headed for the gym. I kept thinking that she did not tell me that it was back or that I was dying right now. Thanks for the words J. Sometimes it just takes me a bit to get it together. The other issue I have to work on is the one thing my Dr said that I can control. Healthy living- eating and exercise. She wants me to get into shape and lose the weight. Cancer loves fat:( So I need to maybe try to start something or join another blog so I can be held accountable. So much for now. Thanks for reading and caring!

Recruiting- To do or not to??

I remember when my husband wanted to try recruiting. Our first daughter was only one. I knew nothing about it. The things I did not know. The hrs were sooooo long. He was home at night so I am not complaining but it was a tuff out there. Doors slammed in your face, parents calling you every name they could come up with. My favorite the HS girls falling for their recruiter. I have seen it all. So what do you think? Have you been a recruiter, spouse of a recruiter or thinking about it? I have 12 yrs experience as a spouse to usarec. Just curious your thoughts.

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT. IT HAS BEEN A YR SINCE I HAD MY SURGERY. I HAVE DONE SO GOOD THIS LAST YEAR. OF COURSE THEN I WAS NOT SURE I WAS GOING TO BE ABLE TO BLOG ABOUT IT TODAY. ITS WEIRD. THE FEELINGS YOU GO THROUGH BEFORE DURING AND AFTER A MASTECTOMY. I FELT ONE WAY AT ONE TIME AND NOW I AM NOT SURE. HOW DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD FEEL OR HANDLE ALL OF THESE DECISIONS THAT ARE I AM GOING TO BE Confronted WITH? RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY IS A BIG DECISION. THE CRAZY THING IS THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS YOU CAN GO. AS LONG AS YOUR A CANDIDATE FOR IT. IN THE WEEKS TO COME I WILL HAVE SOME VERY IMPORTANT APTS. 2010 WILL BE MY YR OF FIRSTS. TLC One Big Happy Family

Has anyone seen this show? It is about a family of 4 weighing between 300-400lbs each. It shows their everyday normal life. The good and bad to being overweight. The show is about their journey to lose weight together by eating right and exercising. They are doing this without professional help or trainers. I has only been on a few times now. So if you have not seen it check it out. It was been funny seeing them drive down the street and walking in the neighborhood. It has been exciting to see people I know on the show. And you ask why??? Well remember I told you that I was staying with my sister until I sell my house. The family is on our street. I kid you not. It is like have Jon and Kate plus eight (when they first started out) My kids are turning into stalkers. I don't think they have asked to ride their bikes so much:) So we are super interested in seeing how they do with their weight loss. The other night I was driving out of the neighborhood and I saw the big CNN truck so yes I was curious. So I found out that they were about to be on Larry King Live. Too funny. I will you let you know if one of my family members get a clip. So I guess The Summers' are I don't know fans of the new celebrities:) Let me know what you think. Tonight on TLC.

Things we take for granted...

Sometimes it is the smallest things. Do you know what LYMPH NODES are? I had heard of them. I knew the Dr always checked them when you go for you appointments. I guess I just took them for granted. They do so much for the body. My LN were removed on my left axilla. Which is under my arm on the same side of the cancer. I hope you are tracking. Anyway anytime you hurt your arm or exercise or do something that causes stress the LN know what to do. How can these little tiny things do so much??? Well now I know. My left arm is in so much pain. My two arms that belong to me don't match. It really looks like two different peoples arm. I am not sure that it ever gets better. It is hard to wear clothes because it is too tight. It looks terrible in a short sleeve top. It is just plain painful. So today be thankful for those little LN in your body. They are working hard to keep the Lymph fluid run thorough your body. I miss mine:( BUT I am thankful for what I do have and don't take any of it for granted.

Prayer request for a breast cancer sister

I received a comment not too long ago and it tore my heart open. Yet another women has been diagnosis with this terrible disease. I would like everyone to take a few minutes and say a prayer for her. It is so tuff. Her last chemo treatment is on the 15th. Which to someone who is going through treatment is like the best thing ever. So congrats to you Cindy. You are almost there. Be strong. Fight as hard as you can. Surgery and radiation is a breeze to the chemo. I am praying for you. I know you are scared. I have been there. I AM THERE. I am there everyday of my life. I am almost at a year since my surgery and I know that I am high risk for the next several years. I pray that God walks with me every step. If you need anything let me know. Blogging has been amazing. My followers pulled me through. I needed them so much and they were there. My prayer for you is fight like a girl and be healed completely. Thanks to you all for praying for her.

Savannah celebrated her birthday at Disney. On her birthday she received a gift card from Disney. She bought herself a Cinderella Precious Moments doll. This is the designer here. She was at Epcot selling her line and signing the dolls. Her stuff was too cute. What so you think about her hat? It says Savannah on the back. Hope you had a fabulous birthday.

My first friend in Fl while we were stationed at Tampa Battalion:) She had 3 boys and I have 3 girls. Our 6 kids could wreck a house faster than a tornado. Great memories! Love your family.

Alexa and Jacqui were in K-2 together. Alexa was crushed when her Daddy received orders to move. They are now 13 and still love each other:)

Carol and I were neighbors turned friends. Her son was a Ranger in the Army. She has been a great supporter of my military life. It was great to see her. Love you!

My very first home that we owned. All of those trees were what we planted. The have gotten so big. I loved it so much. The day we moved in Alexa was my only one and she was 1 yrs old. Where did the time go?

So on our trip we wanted to show the girls three areas we were stationed in Florida. My two youngest were born in Fl while we were stationed there. It was a lot of fun. I am not sure the girls were as excited as we were to see our homes, places we shopped and things we did. They seemed to like the headphones on their head and Disney channel Mike had installed in the car Haha. He just could understand why they were like Dad-OK Dad I see....:( Oh well when you are in the military and you look back at your rank and pay and how you did this and how you did that it was pretty cool. So those of you that know Mike knows he gets super attached to our homes. I kid you not very time we pulled up to a house he was saying oh my goodness what happened to the yard? Where is all the landscape? So funny. After he got over his shock he started knocking on the doors. Of course me I am running for the car and saying no no don't knock on the door. I think he still thought he owned them-lol. We did get to take a tour of the last one we owned so Alexa remember her room she was 5-7yrs there. We had a in ground pool at that one so I heard awww I want a house with a pool again. The man was very nice (same owner who we sold to). I think the one that took the cake is our first home. Mike and I had two of our girls in this home. He was an E-5 and he was so proud of buying this home for me. It was brand new and I loved it. It was my dream home:) He was so disappointed in the way it was taken care of. No tour the lady (same owner here too) was not home or was hiding from my stalker husband. As we traveled around we visited some of our friends and neighbors. Love the life of the Army. I would have never been able to meet so many wonderful people. Friends for life! Til tomorrow-

HAPPY NEW YEAR

First of all I am going to break this up over the rest of the week. Our trip was fabulous. We were gone for 11 days. We started off our trip with Disney. Remember this was my promise to the girls this year. We had so much fun. I hope you can tell by the pictures. Secondly I am behind on my email, face book and blog. Thanks for all the Christmas cards. I will be answering all your emails and checking on your blogs in the next week. I promise I have not forgot about you. Sending my love to all. Thanks to all of our troops who were not home for the holidays. I am praying for your safe return and thanks to the families who are waiting at home. Lastly the 31st of Dec was a year since I had my last chemo treatment! I also had a radiation follow-up the same day. The Dr said my skin was looking good and that he has released me. I am so happy:) Now my next big appointments are Feb 3 and Feb 6. Please pray that they find clear and clean results. I am in the high risk right now. A toast to you and all for a wonderful year of good health and happiness.

A year ago was a blur....

I was thinking I can not believe how busy I have been for about 4 months. I am not complaining though. I rather be doing what I am doing then being sick and not able to get up. Last year during the holidays I was going through chemo. It was super hard for me to function and enjoy my girls. So this year we are taking the girls to Disney for Christmas. I decided this back in the Spring. I knew if I felt up to it I wanted to make special memories with them. I know they will never forget watching their Mommy struggle to wake up and care for them but I thought doing something different would fabulous. I will fill you in on our trip this weekend. I am so excited!


Last year a lot of my blog friends made me ornaments for my tree. It meant the world to me. It is a reminder of all the praying and support I received. I truly will never forget it. You all followed me and gave me something to look forward to and I thank you for that. This year I have a request. My Mom gave up her life for me while I was going through my treatments. She drove back and forth to sit with me while I was getting my chemo and stayed with me on the weekends. She was a real trooper. I know it was hard on her but she never complained and I never saw her sad. She always came with a positive attitude that I would fight like a girl. So my favor is I would love for all of you to send her a Christmas card. I am not going to tell her so it will be a surprise. I would like for her to feel the love and support that I did last year. Thank you for always being there:)

Promotion-Dr apt

Here are a few pictures from yesterday. It was a blast. This is my sister:) You can see in the picture above Mike gave me a gift. It is the chest which says Cindy's Hope Chest. His dream is to start a Non-Profit organization to help people like me who did not know a lot about what to do while battling cancer. Lots of tears. How do you all like my new hair color?? It's growing:)

Speaking of cancer my apt went FABULOUS today. Dr says I am looking great and she will see me in Feb! If I am healthy at that time they will talk about taking my port out and then reconstructive surgery. I AM SUPER EXCITED! Thanks for your continue support and praying. Another 3 months down! Thank you Jesus.

Promotion Day-MSG SUMMERS

I am super excited. Mike is being promoted today. We have family and friends coming from all over. I really want to tell you guys a few things about today but I am afraid Mike might read my blog. I love how soldiers are like brothers they will do anything for each other. That's about all I can say:)

Tomorrow is my next big check up so say a prayer for me. I just want to continued to be healed of this terrible disease.

Number 42!

Finally it has been a long year. Mike knew he made the promotion list back in Sept or Oct 08. It has dragged on forever. Today he got confirmation that it is going to happen 1 Nov!!!! He is so happy. Don't tell anyone but he has been starring at the E-8 rank for a while on his dash in his truck. How is that for a little motivation.


I am thankful everyday:)

Well we received our letter. It states several cases in the Middle School here:( Thanks for your comments!

Swine????

OK I am curious. Are any of your kids coming home with cases of the Swine Flu in their schools? I received a call today that I should be getting a letter today from one of my girls school with 2 confirm cases. What are we suppose to do? How do we protect the other students? Of course with my situation I am trying very hard to stay healthy.

I will be back and let me know what I find out. Hope you all are healthy:)

I am visiting lunchtime with Savannah and was speaking to her teacher. She is new (2nd yr) so I really don't know her that well. Can I say God is good! We were talking about growing up in the same city. Of course Miami is huge. We were talking about what schools we went to. To make a long story short the private Christian school that I went to and where we went to Church is where her grandfather was the minister. Can you believe her grandfather was the pastor of my childhood church. SMALL WORLD!!! My daughter is being taught by his grand-daughter. How sweet is that. It is not like Charlotte NC is around the corner. Just thought I would share:)

Where have I been and what am I doing??

Lillie my yorkie had her babies about a week ago. So I have been busy have tons of fun.

The girls are all in school and adjusting fine. Mike is feeling better and the Army is keeping him very busy. The house is still for sell so we will see how that goes. I am running around working at the girls schools. I am at Alexa's school once a week at the school store. I am the PTO vp at Savannah and Madison's school. We are getting ready to kick off our first fundraiser INVEST-IN-A-KID. Wish me luck:)

I am forming my team for the Susan G Komen check it out below. I know everyone gets busy and money can be tight but I would love for you take a look. You can donate 5. One year

I wish I knew how to add my post a year ago today. I went back and read it and it was just as painful as when I was given my results last year. So much has happened. If you would like to read you can go back. I remember waiting for what felt like forever to get my results and when the call came in it was the beginning of one of the hardest journeys that I have taking or watched someone take. I look back and can not believe that I have made it this far. I have had my ups and downs. Chemo was scary and I hope never to have to revisit that again. Surgery was tuff but I am glad I did it. Radiation was tiring and painful. My body took a major hit and I am still here. I saw the neatest saying last week. The first day you are diagnosed is the first day you are a survivor. Sometimes it sounds weird to even say it. I am still so raw and I consider myself still battling. I am not sure when you start letting the fear go. So much has happened and I know there is so much more to do. My girls have been through a lot and they have done so good with everything. I was lucky to have my family and Mike's family take care of the girls and myself. I could not have done it. My dr and care time worked hard to keep me going during all my treatments. My friends here and in blogland were amazing. The power of prayer brought the Miracle that I wanted. So I thank you for that. Thank you for wearing the bracelets. AS I continue to walk this journey I am still given Him all the Glory.


One year down and looking forward to the next. THANK YOU!

Packing packing packing

OK so I am soooooooooooo tired. I have had 3 days in Greenville to pack some stuff before school starts in Charlotte. I am sore and tired. I have been by myself. It is a good thing because me and the big man upstairs have been talking a lot. Tomorrow is a big day for me. I am glad that I have been too busy to dwell on it. Anyway off to jump in the car and head to see my husband and then my girls tomorrow.

Responding to you

Good Morning:) So I know a have a lot of lurkers who never comment that send me emails or contact me on facebook and I think so much of all of you. This last year would have not been the same without you. I just wanted to respond to some of you. I have been told that I have not been posting enough and that I have not been updating my health enough. The last few months have been crazy. I am still trying to sell my house in G-Vegas and my husband is working at the MEPS. So we have been traveling back and forth so we can see him. It seems every time I am in one of the cities I need something from the other...chargers, sticks or plugs for something. It gets so frustrating:( So as of Sept I will be better about posting. I love it.


As for my health I have had lots of appointments in both cities. My apt on Thurs went well. I really like the new oncologist. I saw my breast surgeon on Monday. He was so sweet. He was very excited to see me. He said that I was looking great. I was healing wonderfully. He said that I was going to start feeling much better and looking more like myself in the next 6 months. So I am going to start taking my picture on the 1st of every month so I can see for myself. How am I feeling? I feel pretty good. I have my days. I still get tired and my endurance just is not there. The one thing that I am dealing with now is lymphedema. Since my lymph nodes have been removed my arm swells if I do to much. It is such a pain. I do have a compression sleeve that I wear so it helps.

Update on whats new with us. The girls are doing great and the Army is keeping Mike super busy. (still waiting on his number for promotion) We are going to the mountains for vacation on Sunday. Yes a week in the mountains. Fun fun fun:)

Well there ya go. Sorry I have not been as good as I was but I promise to get better once things slow down. Thanks for praying for me!

Doctor Apt

I have so much to tell but not enough time. So sorry I have been away for a week. Charlotte-Greenville and back....crazy!

My dr apt with the new oncologist yesterday was great. She said that I am doing great. She is going to send me for a scan to check out a few things. So pray pray pray!


I will be back with lots of updates: I met one of my bloggy friends yesterday for AZ. She has been with me this entire year. So I got to give her a big hug. YAY:)

Never gonna believe this

So I get home last night run to the computer because I am feeling so bad about leaving everyone hanging.....AARRGGGG I forgot the camera. I have the stick and the cord now but no stinking camera. So these are not the original ones. I just took these myself and I am not good at taking them myself as you can see:(. So first of all I look super different since all my treatments. I am a little shy and some what insecure. How do you like my new hat??? It says I love my soldier. I thought it was cute. I have become a hat lover post chemo. So this is how you will see me a lot:) Here is me trying to take a picture so you can see the color and how much it has grown. AS you can see from above I loved long hair. So I so do not know how to fix it but I am working on it.

Here is the back. It is a cinnamon color on the bottom and sides and crazy and wild blonde on the top. I figured I would have fun with it while it is growing.

So here ya go! It was a big ordeal to get this done. I was suppose to get it done on Friday and my girl was running late so after all said and done it was canceled then Sat came and she was running late again. She colored it the bottom color. She was afraid to do anything else. NOT me! I went to the PX on Sun and got this Blonde kit for short hair:)

I really wanted you all to see all the pictures so when I get back to Charlotte I will show you other pictures. Sorry it took so long. Let me know what you think. I can so change it.

Heading to Greenville

So Mike is at some training in Ft. Jackson so the girls and I are heading to Greenville to check on the house. I so need to sell my house. Please say a little prayer for me.

I am going to be messing around with my blog for the next week so bare with me:) As soon as I get home I can show you my hair.

I also have 2 blog awards that I need to pass on so I am looking.

This is a bummer???

My daughter took the before pictures and after on her camera. Ok fine so I go to upload them and her memory stick is not the same size. Her cord is in Greenville and I am in Charlotte. So how am I suppose to do this. Maybe I am not such a computer person. Is there anything that I can do? Trying to figure this out. HMMMM:(

So I am super nervous! I am going to have my hair done for the first time in a long time. A girl should never have to go through this. Wish me luck...not sure what color or anything. I am taking all of your advice and going with no plans. Just going to have fun.

I hate CHEMO but my hair is growing-Help

So as you can see my hair was super long. I have always wore it long a few times shoulder length So when I was diagnosed with cancer the first thing I thought of was Oh my goodness am I going to die and not be able to raise my girls? It was so scary.(still is) The second thing I thought of was my hair. What was going to happen? Sure enough the drs told me that I would lose my hair after about 2 weeks of chemo. So I started letting my girls cut my hair before I just let my husband (strong army soldier) shave my head. Lots of tears. The girls handled pretty good. They kept telling me how beautiful I was as for the soldier...he was strong for me but shortly after shaving my head he took a little drive as for me cried like a baby. Anyway this is bringing back some very painful memories. So here I am my last chemo treatment was Dec 31! My hair is growing and it is not the same. The color is different shades of gray and it is curly and super thick. I have no idea what to do with it. So it gets a hat most of the time. I use to wear my wigs but no so much anymore. So my question is what color? How do I style it? If you have any suggestions I need some help:)

Dear AT&T-North Carolina employee:
This weekend our country celebrates the most American of holidays - "Independence Day." While the parades, family reunions and fireworks displays are great, let us not forget those who made it all possible.
Without the sacrifice, dedication and devotion of the men and women of the Armed Forces, and their families, the Fourth of July would be just another summer day.
North Carolinians understand this well, for our state is home to many Army, Marine and Air Force installations. As far back as the Revolution, Tar Heels have paid the ultimate price to protect our freedoms, falling on many fields:
· from steamy Pacific jungles to cold Korean hillsides,
· from Virginia slopes to Afghan hills,
· from the outskirts of Bastogne to dusty Tehran streets, and
· from the waters of nearly every ocean to a beach called Omaha.
Throughout the years, military families have shouldered a special burden as their kin offered up years of their lives and, often, gone in harm's way. Hollywood and history books overlook these homefront heroes. We should respect and admire their fortitude, sacrifice and strength, just as we honor those who have worn our country's uniform in her defense.
Standing in the gap between freedom and tyranny is an act that echoes through history and touches generations. The mayor of a small French town, a toddler back in June 1944, summed it up when he told a group of college students: "We welcome today the children of the young Americans who liberated my town 40 years ago. We thank you and we will never forget."
Today, the concept of a citizen-soldier hits home for all of us. Many from our AT&T-North Carolina family have been deployed recently or are once again on active duty.
If you are a member of the Reserve or National Guard, please accept my heartfelt thanks for your dedication and service. You are a modern Minuteman, a patriot ready to step out of everyday life and take up arms for the country. Likewise, your family gives up so much to enable you to serve in this special way. Please share with them my appreciation, as well.
During this Independence Day weekend, I challenge us all to set aside a few quite moments to reflect on the courage and sacrifices which have given us the country we all enjoy today. As the opportunities arise, I hope you will personally share a word of thanks with veterans and offer a prayer for the safety of those serving today. I will.
